Radish - Cherry BelleThe Radish Cherry Belle, ‘Raphanus sativus’, has a mild flavor and solid white flesh that makes the Cherry Belle very popular. This spring radish grows best during the cool periods of spring and fall. The Cherry Belle is great if eaten fresh, in salads, or in sandwiches. It can be grown inside during the winter. The flower pods are edible and they will grow in the shade. They an be ready to eat in just 24 days. Plant in early spring as soon as soil temperatures rise above 40 degrees. Successive planting every 10 days will prolong the radish harvest. Radishes prefer loose, light soil with a fair amount of organic material. Harvest when the radish is 1 inch in diameter. Bigger radishes get pithy and hot.
Cabbage - DiscoveryThe Cabbage Discovery, ‘Brassica oleracea (Hybrid)’, is so tasty and so sweet that Discovery is the only cabbage a national food chain will use. Discovery is an early to mid-sason variety. These compact 7 to 8 inch round heads will fit in any nook or cranny your garden might offer. They are much better than the grocery store cabbage. Discovery is easy to grow and is a great container variety. Plant in the spring, 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost for summer harvest. In warm climates, plant in the fall for winter harvest. Discovery Cabbage prefers rich, moist, well drained soil with lots of organic matter. Harvest the heads after they firm up and are solid when squeezed.
