The Forget-Me-Not Victoria Pink, ‘Myosotis sylvatica compacta’, is a superior strain of one of the earliest spring bloomers. Not many plants bloom well in the shade, but Victoria Pink prefers it. The Victoria Pink Forget-Me-Not has numerous 1/3 inch flowers that are petite, pink star-shaped and with a white center. The flowers rise gracefully above neat, low growing mounds. They bloom in early spring for 2 to 4 weeks. The Victoria Pink prefers partial sun to partial shade. The soil should be light, rich, and well drained. They should be kept evenly moist and they should not dry out. Plant in early spring or in or late summer/early fall. The Forget-Me-Nots are excellent for woodland settings and for an early splash of color in moist shady areas.

The Columbine Rocky Mountain Blue, ‘Aquilegea caerulea’, contains nectar in the tip of the petal’s narrow spur that can only be reached by hummingbirds. It is the state flower of Colorado. This is a great addition to any perennial garden. The 2 inch or longer blue and white flowers appear atop wiry stems. The Rocky Mountain Blue Columbine blooms for 3 to 6 weeks in May and June and earlier in mild climates. The foliage has a finely textured, lacy appearance, looking somewhat like a maidenhair fern. Rocky Mountain Blues prefers moist, rich, well drained soil. Light fertilization help Columbine. In areas where summers are hot and dry, Columbine prefers light shade. In costal regions, Columbines take full sun. Plant in early spring or as late as 2 months before the first fall frost. The Columbine Rocky Mountain Blue is used in rock gardens, border plants, and for cut flowers.

The Bachelor Button Tall Blend, ‘Centaurea cyanus’, is a carefree annual that adds vertical interest and an array of colors to your garden. The Bachelor Button, also known as Cornflower, is drought tolerant and needs little pampering. The seed the plant drops quite readily comes back the next year to produce another crop of beautiful flowers. The Tall Blend Bachelor Button produces 1/2 to 1 inch wide flowers in colors of purple, light blue, pink, and white. They will bloom 10 to 12 weeks after seeding. The normal bloom period is 3 to 4 weeks. Bachelor Buttons prefer full sun but will withstand some shade. Average to poor dry soils will produce great flowers. Remove spent flowers to extend bloom season and flower size. Plant in early spring 1 to 2 weeks before last frost. In warm climates plant in in summer to early fall. The Bachelor Button is great for cut or dried flowers.
