    Coral Bells - Mixed Colors

The Coral Bells Mix, ‘Heuchera’, will expand your shade garden’s color palette with this pretty mix of Coral bells. These hardy perennials are known for their unique and brilliantly colored foliage, as well as their airy sprays of dainty, bell-shaped flowers. Plant them in medium wet, well-drained soils, in full shade. (They can tolerate some morning sun. ) They look especially good around the edge of borders, near variegated plants, woodland edges, rock gardens, perennial borders, or in mass to form an attractive ground cover. Excellent in partly shaded borders, under trees, and even mixed into ornamental containers on shady patios. Heuchera is susceptible to rot, so good drainage is essential while roots establish themselves.

    Sumac - Staghorn

The Staghorn Sumac, Rhus typhina, is the most well-known sumac. Its branches resemble deer antlers. Staghorn sumac reaches 25 feet in height at maturity with an equal spread. It is not as tolerant of poorly drained soils as other sumacs. The large dark crimson - or rarely orange to yellow - pinnate leaves of this sumac have 15-31 narrow, leaflets that can be up to (6″) long. The stems and fruits of Staghorn Sumac are densely hairy, as in the “velvet stage” of a stag’s antlers. These colorful, nonpoisonous shrubs or small trees are rhizomatous. The large clumps form bright splashes of color along forest margins, road banks, and fencerows and in old fields over much of the Appalachians.

    Brandywine Maple

The Brandywine Maple, Acer rubrum ‘Brandywine’, is known for its long lasting, brilliant reddish purple fall color. Only male flowers are produced in spring so there are no messy seeds to clean up. A medium-sized shade tree, it is perfect for the urban garden. Its bright, enduring fall color begins red and gradually turns brilliant purple red over a long period. This maple was developed by the National Arboretum and grows 25 feet tall and 12 feet wide which gives it an oval shape. It exhibits significant tolerance to leafhopper, one of the major pests of landscape red maples.
