    Babys Breath - Covent White

    The Baby’s Breath Covent White, ‘Gypsophila elegans ‘Covent White’, has graceful, airy flowers that are used for contrast in cut flower bouquets. The contast they add to large, colorful flower arrangemnts is stunning. Baby’s Breath is an easy to grow annual and they provide clouds of white 1/2 inch flowers. The plant lives and blooms for 4 to 6 weeks. For a continuous supply of flowers all summer, sow seed every 2 to 3 weeks. The dazzling white flowers will continue into fall in warm winter climates. The Covent White prefers full sun and alkaline soil. In areas of acid soils, add lime to the soil. They are drought tolerant and once established, the soil should dry out between waterings. Plant the Baby’s Breath after the last average frost date. Baby’s Breaths are used for cut flowers, rock gardens, and hot dry locations.

    Radish - Round Black Spanish

    The Radish Round Black Spanish, ‘Raphanus sativus’, is a winter radish with black skin and white flesh. Radish lovers should try this often neglected group of winter radishes. The large roots are excellent for slices on sandwiches or in salads. The flesh has a medium-hot flavor and they can be stored for a long time. . In cold climates, plant in mid-summer for fall harvest. In mild climates, plant in late fall for fall and winter harvest. Radishes prefer loose, light soil with a fair amount of organic material. Harvest when the radish is 3 to 4 inches across or smaller. Bigger radishes get pithy and hot.

    Sunflower - First Light

    The Sunflower First Light, ‘Helianthus salicifolius First Light, a Blooms of Bressingham plant, displays a solid mass of 2 daisy light yellow flowers. The fuzzy, linear green leaves make a wonderful contrast with the flowers. First Light has a plant height of 4 and a spread of 28. Helianthus should be planted in full sun with average to well-drained soils. It will grow best with moisture, but can tolerate drought. Try Helianthus as cut flowers, in the back of beds or borders, with Ornamental Grasses or Asters. Birds also love the seeds that are produced. First Light will give a stunning explosion of color to any perennial garden.

    Tomato - Aunt Rubys German Green

    The Tomato Pole Aunt Ruby’s German Green, ‘Lycopersicon lycopersicum’, is an old Heirloom variety. It is not the prettiest tomato, but it is spicy and sweet and very delicious. We think Aunt Ruby’s German Green is the best flavored green tomato. The tomatoes are a large, beefsteak type with 12 to 16 ounce fruits. The Aunt Ruby’s tomato ripens to a pale green with a hint of yellow. Aunt Ruby’s German Green is an intermediate tomato which means they continue to grow indefinitely until frost. Tomatoes are generally started inside. They may also be seeded outside after the last average frost date. In warm winter/hot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Prune the intermediate tomatoes in order to keep a single stem.
